Preschool Activity: Sorting

I love sorting activities for preschoolers. I think it is because there are so many different ways to inject learning into this fun activity. Little ones hardly realize they are learning foundational concepts that are the building blocks for not only further education, but for life.

They can increase their knowledge and awareness of numbers, colors, shapes, and size. You can count and sort almost anything! From cotton balls and beads to superheroes and teddy bears, the possibilities are endless. Even the putting away of toys is a "sorting" activity: All the blocks go here, all the cars go in this box, all the ponies in this one, etc.

So the next time you see a bunch of M & M's try having your little one separate them out for a little improvised learning. Or, you can purchase smaller items at the store (like the baubles above that I got on Christmas Clearance). But purchasing items is not necessary, use what you have. Go on a hunt around the house. You might be suprised with what you find!
